Cabinet Painting Is The Only Trade Practised Here

Richmond Hill Cabinet Painting sprays, refinishes and refaces kitchen cabinets, vanities, islands, pantries and wall units for households from Langstaff up through Elgin Mills and Jefferson to Oak Ridges, and out into Gormley, Aurora and Whitchurch-Stouffville. Every job we take on is fully insured. Cabinet painting is the only trade we practise, which is why a conversation here is about a specific oak kitchen in Doncrest or a thermofoil galley on Yonge Street rather than about paint in general.

The housing stock sets the work. Golden oak from 1991 in Bayview Hill, maple from 2004 in Westbrook, a thermofoil builder kitchen from 2010 off Elgin Mills Road and a melamine galley in a Langstaff tower each want a different primer, a different weight of prep and occasionally a different answer altogether. Telling those kitchens apart before a price is written is most of this job.

Prep Decides Whether Cabinet Painting Lasts, So Prep Is Never Shortened

Coatings come off cabinets for four reasons: grease nobody removed, a surface nobody sanded, primer that never suited the material underneath, or a heavy coat put to work before it cured. Each of those is avoidable, and avoiding them is the whole method.

So each door comes down numbered, each drawer front as well, a cleaner strong enough for kitchen wax cuts the grease, every surface is sanded dull, and primer answers the substrate rather than habit. Oak and cherry take shellac. Melamine and thermofoil take a bonding primer. Maple, MDF and already-painted doors take standard cabinet primer. Topcoats are 2K polyurethane, or a waterborne alkyd, sprayed thin with a sand between coats. Why the doors leave for a booth is covered on our page about spraying, and all nine kinds of cabinet painting are gathered on the services page.

What Gets Said Even When It Costs Us The Cabinet Painting Job

We say when thermofoil has lifted too far and the door needs replacing instead. We say when cherry or white oak deserves keeping, and send people to the page on stain and clear coat. We say when a box has swollen under a leak and no coating will rescue it. We say when a chosen white is going to read yellow beside a grey counter, and we spray a sample door to prove the point before anyone commits. Painting whatever is pointed at is order-taking, and a cabinet painting company owes a household better than that.

How We Work

  • Prep is never shortened

Grease, unsanded surfaces and the wrong primer are why coatings fail. Each door comes down numbered, then gets degreased, sanded dull and primed for its own material before any colour goes on.

  • One quote that names everything

Doors, drawer fronts, boxes, primer, topcoat, sheen and coat count all appear on the written quote, each priced apart. Islands, pantries and vanities carry their own lines so they can be added or dropped.

  • Honest verdicts

Peeling thermofoil, swollen boxes and wood worth keeping get named at the visit, even when it costs the job. A sample door is sprayed when a colour looks risky beside a counter.

  • A finish left to cure

The job ends when the coating is hard, not when the doors are hung. Written care notes cover the first month: soft cloths, no abrasives and a gentle hand where wear concentrates.
